Available Jan 11th-Jan 25th 2019- one week minimum

The Girasol apartment is closest to the entry and has a sitting area with a lovely view of the main garden and lemon trees.  This apartment is roomy and comfortable and has mostly contemporary Mexican artwork on display.  A king or two twins beds are available, depending on your preference. Florecer Casitias is located on a hillside above the city, ten minutes walking to the city center, restaurants, museums, Spanish schools, and more.  There is regular bus transportation into town and back and easy taxi accessibility as well.

Contact Liz Mapelli to make your reservation now!

At the risk of waxing on and on about the many delightful days we stayed at Florecer Casitas, I would simply like to say that from the moment the big pink doors swung open and our travel weary bodies stepped into a garden courtyard, I knew we were home away from home.  Liz Mapelli must be a seasoned traveler, how else would she know what the senses desire.  Six casitas, each one charming, each one private, each one beautifully, artistically and immaculately appointed and  equipped.  And if there is anything you need, Liz will appear with a brilliant smile and flashing blue eyes to assist you.  As the day wanes, whirl up a Margarita and make your way up to the rooftop to watch the sun set over Guanajuato.  Call it a day, sink into a luxurious bed, dream sweet dreams, and then do it all over again tomorrow.

Bovadas at the Golden Bee

1/5/2019

Yes, building the GOLDEN BEE was one of the largest projects Theo and I, Sara Tink, ever took on. It took 6 years to complete. We couldn't have done it with out the support of my mom, Liz and Architect David Chavez Chavez, plus an AMAZING CREW of master builders.

Where to start? I guess I will start with a question almost everyone asks, "how are the Bovadas built?" I think its easier to show in photographs. So below are a few photos of building the Bovada on the third floor, Panoromantica, Suite.  A Bovada is a domed ceiling built without a form. Each brick is placed and held until it stays and then another is added. One by one unfolds an upside down woven brick basket. The shape changes while building up a few feet a day all around the circumference of the space. A very special mortar mix is used, this recipe is passed down by Bovadaro family members. By slowly curving and working up the dome is formed and then is closed in at the top.  It's very magical to watch, the sky just disappears a little bit everyday. It goes pretty fast and all of the sudden your standing underneath a work of art. The kitchen Bovada in the Queendom suite downstairs is also built with this same technique, but it's at least twice the size, and is a rectangular dome.

Almost finished, isn't that just magical. And to top it off it has a glass cupola in which you can see the night sky.
